SwimTemp (swimtemp.com) is a sea temperature information service. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under GDPR.
SwimTemp is operated by an individual based in Berlin, Germany.
SwimTemp does not require account registration. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personal information from users.
We collect the following anonymous technical data through our hosting provider (Fly.io):
— IP addresses (anonymized, used for abuse prevention)
— Browser type and operating system
— Pages visited and time of visit
— Geographic region (country level only)
This data is used solely to keep the service running and to understand general usage patterns. It is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
SwimTemp uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This service uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data such as pages visited, session duration and device type. No personally identifiable information is collected.
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Our hosting provider (Fly.io) may set technical cookies necessary for load balancing and security. These are strictly necessary and cannot be disabled without affecting service functionality.
Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) — sea surface temperature data at 0.05° resolution, updated daily from satellite observations. Dataset: METOFFICE-GLO-SST-L4-NRT-OBS-SST-V2. marine.copernicus.eu
NOAA World Ocean Atlas 2023 (WOA23) — monthly climatological sea temperature averages used to show historical temperature patterns for each beach. ncei.noaa.gov
Open-Meteo Marine API — real-time wave height, swell height, swell period and ocean current data. Updated every 3–6 hours from global weather models (MeteoFrance, ECMWF, GFS). open-meteo.com
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — place names and geocoding for the interactive map. openstreetmap.org
Copernicus Marine Service — provides sea surface temperature data. When you use SwimTemp, temperature data is fetched from Copernicus servers. Their privacy policy applies: marine.copernicus.eu/privacy-notice
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — used for reverse geocoding (converting coordinates to place names) when you click on the map. Your clicked coordinates are sent to Nominatim servers. Their privacy policy: osmfoundation.org
OpenFreeMap — provides the base map tiles. Map tile requests are sent to their servers. Their privacy policy: openfreemap.org
Open-Meteo — provides real-time wave height, swell and ocean current data shown on beach and map pages. When you view a beach page, your browser sends the beach coordinates to Open-Meteo servers to fetch current marine conditions. No personal data is transmitted. Google Analytics — we use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymous usage statistics. Google may process this data on servers outside the EU. Their privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
Booking.com / GetYourGuide — SwimTemp may display affiliate links to these services. If you click a link and make a booking, SwimTemp may receive a commission. These services have their own privacy policies which apply when you visit their websites.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:
